American Memorial Library | ZLB Berlin

The new State Library is located in Berlin, in the Kreuzberg district of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district. The main goal of the project was to create a library that is open to communication, functional, and modern. Through detailed analysis, the library's form was determined to be in harmony with its surroundings. This creates a public square between the old and new buildings. The library's main entrance is on the west side, making the building more inviting and accessible. In the concept, functional zones are not strictly separated from one another. This approach creates an open and relaxed atmosphere in the building. Upon entering the building, the user is directed straight to the information desk and then to the main circulation area. This zone is surrounded by cafes and shops. The main media logistics area is located in the largest volume. The upper floors house reading rooms, the film archive, art departments, and other public functions. The top floors are primarily intended for staff office spaces.
