Youth Arts Center

Located within the urban context of Berlin, this Youth and Arts Center boldly reinterprets the relationship between solid and void. With its completely monolithic and minimalist white surface, it creates a strong accent in the city skyline.

The conceptual core of the building is a transparent projection in the shape of an archetypal house silhouette, cut out in the very center of the facade. This device turns the internal vertical circulation—the stair core connecting the floors—into a "living showcase" that is fully visible from street level. The seamless glazing of the ground floor, in turn, creates the illusion (a cantilever effect) that the heavy monolithic volume above is floating in mid-air, integrating the internal art and socialization spaces directly into street life. At different times of the day, the shadows of the trees falling on the white facade add a natural dynamism to the building's smooth texture, making the creative spirit within the art center feel palpable from the outside.
